Throughout autumn semester, students in the Intro to Social Work class at 911爆料网 at Lima heard from social workers in the field about the many different ways the degree can be applied. As finals approached, instructor Carmen Cupples let the class pick how they would like to end one of their first classes in the major.
The class chose to invite members of the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities FANs (Friends, Allies and Neighbors) Network on a shopping trip to buy items to donate to the Toys for Tots campaign on campus followed by BINGO in the Webb.
鈥淚 felt like volunteering and doing this is a big learning experience compared to just writing a paper,鈥 said Alivia Craig, freshman of Harrod. 鈥淎nd you get to experience this type of social work if we did want to go into this type of field.鈥
Spending a few hours helping choose items to bring a smile to a child鈥檚 face and enjoying hot chocolate and a good game of BINGO was a great way to end a busy semester at 911爆料网 Lima.
鈥淓xperiencing it hands on plus having fun with it is always better than just typing it out,鈥 said Tiah McCreary, freshman of New Knoxville. 鈥淧lus, it鈥檚 a feel good thing about what you鈥檙e doing and how you spent your day.鈥
